31st Bailey Reunion Scheduled

The thirty-first reunion of the descendants of Edmond Bailey will be held at the First Baptist Church in Burnsville, N.C. (Yancey County) on Sunday, June 16, beginning at 2:30 p.m. The church is located on the town square.

Edmond, a soldier in the French and Indian War, was one of six members of a Virginia militia company to survive the Battle of Fort Duquesne (Pittsburgh, Pa.) on July 9, 1755. He resided thereafter in Wilkes Co., N.C. Some of his children moved to Burke Co. (present Mitchell and Yancey) around 1800.

Among the children of Edmond were: (1) Ansel, married Elizabeth Bradley; (2) John, married Rutha Ellis; (3?) William, married Elizabeth Baker; (4) Mary, married Elijah Aldridge and David Cox (Sr.); (5?) a girl, married Isaac Cook (Sr.); (6) Charles; (7) Susannah, married Jarrod Simpkins.
